What We Do

Compassion East India, based in Kolkata takes care of the holistic needs of marginalized children in the urban and rural pockets of eastern India since its inception in 2002. In serving the needs of the most vulnerable and at risk children, Compassion East India is also committed to provide a platform for children to develop themselves, and compete with those from the affluent strata of society. While we aim to develop these children into responsible and fulfilled adults, we envisage a day when one of these children will become a leader in his or her respective community. Our work for children is accomplished through the child development centers, created to facilitate holistic development of children by nurturing them in their physical, educational, social and economic areas. We implement holistic child development through our core programs as in the Child Survival Program, the Child Sponsorship Program and Youth Development. Our role is to challenge, encourage, equip, protect and provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can flourish.

Vision

Compassion East India has a vision to release children from poverty and help children maximize their impact by becoming leaders of influence in their respective communities and outside.

Core Values

As an organization committed to release children from poverty, Compassion East India values Integrity, Excellence, Stewardship and Dignity.

Where We Work

Compassion East India has been working with over 261 community based organizations, many of them in remote tribal areas spread out in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura and West Bengal. Through Compassion’s various initiatives, we believe that children will grow up to remain safe, study well and display exceptional character.

Achievements

Many children registered in our program from the Malto tribal community have completed their 12th grade and are the first generation to pursue University studies in reputed institutions across India. Our Malaria Intervention Program through use of insecticide treated nets has helped contribute to the overall health of thousands of children in our child development centers. Various income and skill trainings imparted to the families of our beneficiaries are helping them rise above their abject poverty. CEI has witnessed the successful graduation of its students, many working in reputed institutions both nationally and internationally now.
